TREASURE IN ABUNDANCE
Everywhere I go I'm always looking for treasure, yes like a crow my treasure may not be to everyone's taste but here's a selection of what I found out on my walk this morning. A piece of bark with moss still growing on it; Wisteria seed pods; another piece of bark that glitters like gold and three Jacaranda seed pods.Upon closer inspection of the moss grown piece of bark, I saw it still has a spider skeleton on it - reminds me of a desert island, in the middle of the ocean. The details on this glittering piece of bark look like a golden, diamond-encrusted work of art - what splendour from crystallised tree sap?But the Jacaranda seed pod was a truly fascinating discovery. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined those purple flowered trees that line the streets of Pretoria would have such large and odd-looking seed carriers. It reminds me of something between a flycatcher and an oyster shell. Its seeds are flat and surrounded by a paper-thin membrane that helps them float gracefully towards the ground at the slightest rustle of the pods. I've planted some and hopefully one will sprout into a tree. I plan to plant some Wisteria seeds too - perhaps soon I'll have two purple flowered trees I adore the look of.
