PASSIVE PROTECTION
Allow me to take a moment to show some gratitude where gratitude is due.
I'm friends with the CEO, and on our usual Friday morning coffee, I fill him in on my latest experiments and feed him samples of my recent attempts.
Somewhere along the way, he got invested in my newfound passion and gave me a donation to further this adventure.
He may be my brother, but this officially makes him my first sponsor.
If prevention is better than cure, passive fire protection is like sterilising jars before using them for food preservation.
As for the donation, I've spent some of it on more herbs and vegetables for my growing kitchen garden, some I intend to buy kefir starter grains and SCOBY for kombucha with, and the rest, I've purchased my first Consol order towards sound fermentation.
It arrived yesterday, between the electric fence mayhem, so I've hardly had the time and grace since to fully celebrate or even utilise it.Unpacking it felt like Christmas and was a consolation of sorts; a spark of light, a promise of beautiful things, yet to come.To start this new venture, I chose spare lids, jars in three sizes and multi-functional combinations wherever possible.Last night, while preparing supper, I tried out the juicer, the grater and the little jug.I was impressed with how easily the pips fell out of the juicer lid afterwards. And that there was practically zero cheese spillage with the grater lid.Even the little jug lid seals perfectly when in the closed position.Though the salt grinder can also be transformed into a regular 250ml preservation jar with a plastic lid, it's massive compared to a regular 100ml grinder, making seasoning food while cooking a breeze.
Yes, by all means, I'm exhausted right now and should get to bed, but even so, I can't wait for things to calm down a bit so I can get back in the kitchen and try out all my new toys properly.
