COMMIT TO ACTION
All the dreams, fantasies, daydreams, good intentions, and knowledge in the world mean nothing if we cannot translate them into reality through action.
You would think we would get better at this as we grow older, but in truth, it remains the domain of infants and babies and dwindles as we lose our child-like spirit and enthusiasm to step out of our comfort zone, set our egos aside and embrace new challenges.
I'm a recovering bibliophile who has lost my taste for the accumulation of knowledge I failed to convert into skills that work and hands-on learning that results in muscle memory - so I've committed myself to forego any form of study I cannot immediately translate into action.
My one girlfriend in KwaZulu-Natal has an incredibly talented daughter, a romantic at heart and a true artist... and I'm not kidding, her work speaks for itself.
She's only attending high school next year, yet I would already love framed copies of her work on my walls.
Her innate eye for affectionate love speaks of a heart and soul in touch with humanity. If she does not go on to exhibit her work and somehow carve out a life in the arts, the world will be poorer for it.So I'm over the moon to learn that she took the initiative and made those Cape Malay Style Date Balls last night.
Of all the friends and family I shared with, trust a child to try it first!
Right now, I'm so proud of her, yet she also inspires me to get even closer to my child-like heart, that one who believes all things are possible and, therefore, they become so.Here is her finished product - what an excellent job from a primary school kid!
Let's take a leaf out of her book and commit our dreams, fantasies, daydreams, good intentions, and knowledge to action, too - sow real seeds, not imaginary ones and harvest real food, not just erosive winds.
