TOO HOT TO HANDLE
Okay, right now it is hell hot, and I've resorted to making my own re-hydrate already. It was pretty easy, for every litre of filtered water I just added one teaspoon of salt and a tablespoon of sugar. I also flavoured mine with fresh mint and ginger, before I decanted it into empty water bottles and popped those in the fridge. It's quite lovely over ice and some lemon.
Then while preparing some Paw Paw this morning for brunch I wondered to myself,
"How hard can it be to grow some?"
I searched and found this video and so I tried his smear method.
And that got me thinking about growing watermelons and pineapples too... and before long I was craving Tepache, and naturally that led to wondering how I could brew my own ginger beer too, and the thought of a refreshing glass of the real stuff got me thinking about growing my own ginger... and not long after I returned from the local green grocer with three items.
First things first, the ginger has to soak for 24 hours in water before I can plant it.
And a portion of it will go towards starting my ginger beer, come tomorrow.
Then I chopped up the watermelon; "A labourer is worthy of his wages." In this heat, it was no chore at all.And in the process I removed the seeds, rinsed them off and put them one side to dry.
I'm hoping to plant them all over the garden, soon.
After that, I prepped the pineapple into three parts. I removed all the eyes left on the flesh, sliced, cored, cubed and froze it too.
Next up was the crown I hope to grow into an actual tree, following this guys instructions.
It came out adorable, if nothing else.
And last but not least I used the pineapple scales to make Tepache. If I start drunk texting people, then I've clearly over fermented my pineapple 'beer'... but for now, all I can do is wait in eager expectation! As they say, tomorrow is another day.
